Book, Farewell to Emmanuel Lévinas[LS]
Descrição
Emotion and reason become a single voice, when one of the most illustrious thinkers in Western philosophy pays tribute to another of the same stature and importance, after his death. Farewell to Emmanuel Lévinas is the combination of two moments, after the death of the great thinker. The first of them, in 1995, is the 'Goodbye' speech of the disciple, the interlocutor and the admirer on the recent death of his master. The most extensive essay, 'A Palavra Acolhimento', was carried out the following year, on the occasion of a tribute to Lévinas at the 'Visage et Sinaï' meeting, addressing the concepts of the words 'welcome' and 'hospitality' as fundamental points to be highlighted of his work. It is Jacques Derrida's farewell - one of the most representative names in contemporary philosophy - to one of his main intellectual mentors and, at the same time, an assessment of the importance of his legacy. The publication, by Perspectiva in the Debates collection, of this small work in which emotion and reason come together in a sensitive expression, rarely achieved in personal and intellectual relationships between contemporary philosophers, makes it possible for readers to come into contact with the affinities and specificities of thought of these two great exponents of philosophy in our time.
