Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Book - The history of Brazil through the streets of Paris
THE REMARKABLE STORIES OF BRAZILIAN CHARACTERS ON THE STREETS OF PARIS From D. Pedro I to Oscar Niemeyer, through D. Pedro II, Santos Dumont, the positivists, Villa-Lobos and Lúcio Costa, this book tells the stories lived by great Brazilian characters in one of the most iconic settings in modern life: the streets of Paris. Retracing the trajectory of these characters, the book presents the facts that took them to the French capital, what they accomplished in the city, who they interacted with and what impact they had on their peers and French society at the time. Maurício reveals, throughout this search, unsuspected relationships between Paris and some of the most important figures in our history. With the care of a meticulous historian and the obstinacy of a passionate journalist, he begins with exhaustive research work through the streets and libraries of the city to embrace the French and Brazilian historical contexts of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the process of formation of the image of Brazil in France throughout this period. Along the way – at the same time as he encounters surprising episodes of the Brazilian adventure in Paris – he draws an unusual map of the French capital, creating a kind of historical guide for Brazilians on the streets of the City of Light.
