Descrição
Abdias Nascimento was one of the most important and brilliant leaders in Brazil, dedicating himself intensely to confronting racism and promoting the Afro-Brazilian cultural legacy. Writer, visual artist, playwright, he left an unavoidable cultural legacy through TEN, Teatro Experimental do Negro, the paintings that highlight his connection with African culture and the books that denounce racism and the violence of ethnic-racial relations in Brazil. In the 1980s, he returned to the institutional policy of the National Congress, where he believed it was necessary to address racial issues and implement public reparation policies. We owe much of the debate and public policies that we see today and that were implemented in the country to his parliamentary performance. This action is the object of this book. FOURTH COVER A stellar figure in the fight against racism and in favor of the reparation rights of black people in Brazil, Abdias Nascimento made his life a song of praise for Afro-Brazilian culture and of war against the racist and patrimonial State. Writer, playwright, actor and visual artist, founder of the mythical Teatro Experimental do Negro, creator of Ipeafro, federal deputy and senator, Abdias held, already at the dawn of redemocratization, all the great flags that today are inescapable for us to make a modern society and radically democratic: affirmative policies, the Memorial to the Unknown Slave, the criminalization of racism, Black Consciousness Day, the labor rights of domestic workers, the fight against apartheid, the new Constitution, the Zumbi Memorial and the Palmares Cultural Foundation. A visionary, he realized that the great and crucial fight would take place in the political arena, that overcoming the injustice and racism that fueled the resentment and anger of a large part of Brazilians would only be possible by taking the big issues through institutional combat in the heart of Republic, creating the foundations for urgent social transformations. This book is not a biography; It aims, first of all, to give an account of the political trajectory of one of the most daring and brilliant personalities of a country that seems to always be built. It is, above all, a call to fight. COLLECTION NAME The Debates collection is dedicated to contemporary themes and current debates and controversies.
