Mary del Priore ends her Stories of the Brazilian People with Republic: Testimonies (1951-2000), the fourth volume in the series, covering the second half of the 20th century, a period in which we went through successive political tensions and went through numerous social changes.

The award-winning historian details the transformations that defined the country we live in today. In the pages of the book we (re)visit a Brazil that saw its cities become vertical and followed an odyssey in the domestic space.

Mary builds a tasty narrative interspersed with testimonies from those who lived during that time - anonymous and famous, but always from a very personal perspective -, recording the changes in the streets, living rooms, gardens, refrigerators, shelves, wardrobes and sheets. At the end of the book and the admirable Stories of the Brazilian People, we have the feeling that we have entered the text and participated in it; that our stories are there, in fact, the stories of that Brazil so rich and so different.
