Gender and Inequalities - by Flávia Biroli
Descrição
In Gender and Inequalities, political scientist Flávia Biroli, professor at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Brasília, presents the many transformations in gender relations that have occurred in recent decades. The major themes of post-1970 feminism appear, in each chapter, with the different global and national historical scenarios that shaped, slowed down or boosted women's struggles. Set in the Brazilian context, the work illuminates discussions about inequality between men and women with the aim of understanding the impasses that arise in the construction of fairer gender relations. To respond to this challenge, the author examines fundamental themes of women's rights, feminism and Brazilian democracy. Using refined, precise and clear language, the researcher analyzes different dimensions - sexual division of labor; care and responsibilities; family and motherhood; abortion, sexuality and autonomy; feminisms and political action - which allow us to see how, despite significant changes, the place of women remains subordinate, challenging the limits of democracy. Based on a systematic dialogue with the contemporary international theoretical debate and incorporating empirical and contextual elements, Flávia Biroli ends the book with a comprehensive analysis of the reactionary attack on the gender agenda in Latin America. The ear is by Céli Pinto and the fourth cover, by Albertina de Oliveira Costa.
