“Sea in sight, let’s get started!”
Sea economy: a Brazil-Portugal sustainable development strategy explores the opportunities, challenges and perspectives of the blue economy: a rapidly growing field, which seeks to reconcile economic and territorial development with the conservation of marine resources, always focused on sustainability.
In the work, definitions and themes related to sustainable maritime economy address business trends and blue entrepreneurship, an innovative economic paradigm, as drivers of new work, employment and income opportunities.
Important concepts are introduced to resolve the lack of knowledge about the economy of the sea and, consequently, the need to develop maritime awareness among the population to drive "blue growth" through technology, innovation and collaboration.
In parallel, and with equal relevance, cases from Rio de Janeiro and Portugal are presented on financing, environmental and social governance, economic dynamics in maritime territories, as well as key sectors such as fishing, aquaculture, biotechnology, energy, beach economy , sports, tourism and sea cuisine. The panorama in the state of Rio de Janeiro is then shown and the Atlantic is crossed to explain the dynamism in Portugal: an international reference on the topic. These sectoral synergies and collaborative and convergent partnerships are essential to consolidate the maritime economy and boost the growth of both countries and other Portuguese-speaking nations.
This reading is essential so that Brazil, with its immense territory and maritime resources, can plan its economy in a more collaborative and sustainable way, and, thus, become a global maritime power, with the use and preservation of enormous resources for the good for the planet.
