It is said that Camões faced several shipwrecks on his voyages through the East. The most famous occurred at the mouth of the Mekong River, when a storm sank the caravel in which he was traveling. In the confusion that ensued, the poet was faced with a dilemma that would span the centuries: on one side, disappearing into the immensity of the waters, he saw the bag with the manuscript of Os Lusíadas; on the other, screaming for help, his beloved Tin Na Men. Whom to save? Considering that today the summary of one of the greatest epics in universal literature is in all Portuguese language manuals in Europe, America, Africa and Asia, it is clear that Camões ignored his girlfriend's pleas and dove in to save the manuscript.
