Dictionary and Practice of False Friends - by Amadeu Marques and Gisele Aga
Descrição
This dictionary is the result of long, careful and, believe it or not, pleasurable research into some of the words written in English texts, which can confuse the reader as to their real meaning. The selection of false friends is subjective, reflects the authors' opinion and is not intended to be complete; certainly, other authors would have other preferences regarding the selection of these misleading words. However, the 365 false friends one for each day of the year, due to their peculiarities, do justice to the selection, and the number of these deceptive little words is already a good size for a work of this size. One of the main characteristics of the work is the popular approach to the language, that is, it does not seek to rely on broad theoretical references or technical views from academic specialists. On the contrary, the work leaves the street to enter the book, from everyday life to writing, from use to registration, based on the concept that the movement of oral language is the engine of its dynamics and not the supposed theoretical refinement.
