The Image Diary book | Diary of Images presents the trajectory of Brazilian artist Josely Carvalho, based in the United States since 1964. Included in this trajectory is her work in different engraving techniques, with emphasis on the use of screen printing in various demonstrations linked to feminism and the fight against discrimination social and gender issues in the 1970s and 1980s; the affirmation of female desire, accomplished with the help of birds, fish and turtles; the discussion about its cultural hybridity; installations arising from the United States invasion of Iraq in 1991; his public work for the Armênia subway station in the city of São Paulo; the Livro das tiles project, in the format of an open book in permanent development on the Internet; the most recent exhibitions involving the construction of nests, understood not only as shelters, but also as architectures erected by the olfactory memory of our most archaic experiences; and several examples of his poetic writings.
