Buckle Up: A Crash Course in Down Syndrome for Brothers and Sisters - by Brian G. Skotko

This is the first work designed for siblings of people with Down syndrome (DS), valid for the needs of siblings at any stage of life, with any type of disability, as the dilemmas are very similar. These are easy-to-read questions and answers that simply address a wide range of concerns grouped into categories. There are almost 100 questions such as: facts and statistics about DS; how people with DS learn; deal with parental and family conflicts; with the brothers' frustrating behaviors; manage uncomfortable situations; classify your feelings; what the future holds for you and your sibling; and, finding your own resources and the network of contacts around you. Information and answers are provided by Brian Skotko, a physician and brother of a young woman with Down syndrome, and Sue Levine, a social worker who has focused on sibling issues for the past 30 years.
