Descrição
Premature failures and changes in paint coatings are, without a doubt, topics of great interest to the corrosion protection sector. Technical knowledge and identification of the causes responsible for the occurrence of these phenomena are fundamental for the correct specification of painting schemes, as well as for minimizing, or even eliminating, the risks of significant technical and economic losses. This Manual presents different types of failure and changes in paint coatings, which can occur in the short, medium and long term. Among the most common, the following stand out: a) premature corrosion of the substrate, resulting from factors related to the design phase of structures and equipment and the previous conditions of the substrate, b) failures in the film during or after the first hours of paint application , c) premature failures and changes in coatings resulting from their exposure to real working conditions. The vocabulary used, which is easy to understand, and the extensive photographic documentation will certainly contribute to improving the technical training of professionals working in the anti-corrosion painting sector in Brazil, although it is recognized that the topic is quite comprehensive and dynamic and at all times new cases of failure may arise, requiring additional research work to identify the probable causes responsible for their occurrence.
