Book, French School of Geography, A: a contextual approach[LS]
Descrição
The French School of Geography, in its initial formation process, went beyond the restricted limits of its field and country to become an important landmark in the human sciences and the history of ideas. Hence, in addition to the specific and instrumental value in its objective context, this work by Vincent Berdoulay contributes to a coherent structuring in terms of ideas about geography and the epistemological geography of ideas, by retracing a trajectory that influenced and still influences the humanities and the its teaching throughout the world. 'Admitting the transformation of nature by man, contradicting the classic Darwinist notion that given environmental conditions we have to adapt, inaugurated a new and radical way of thinking. It was no small feat. The French School of Geography was a milestone for environmental studies, introducing notions such as human and social geography. From that moment on, Nature no longer exists as an absolute factor. Now, it is subject to transformation and manipulation, sometimes radical, by human action. Notions that today allow us to talk about environmental compensations for major engineering works, as well as alert to the dangers of our actions for climate and ecosystem disturbances on a planetary level.
